After his experience in Investment Banking at UBS (London) and his career as a lawyer at Garrigues (Madrid), José started his own legal services firm CARLES CUESTA Abogados y Asesores Financieros in Madrid.
At the age of 32, José was included in the Global Restructuring Review’s short list for the 40 under 40 awards, being one of the two Spanish lawyers considered among all the Restructuring lawyers worldwide. José’s specialties are civil and commercial litigation, bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-Court restructuring (debt refinancing and transactions).
Having lived in Ireland, UK, France and Austria, José is multilingual and speaks Spanish, English (mother tongues), French, Catalan, German, Italian and Hebrew, having a solid experience in negotiating and rendering advice in Spanish Law at an international level.
José is a professor of Insolvency Law and a lecturer on legal topics related with companies facing bankruptcy, and has published articles in specialist legal journals such as the Anuario de Derecho Concursal (Journal on Bankruptcy Law). He also has extensive experience directing and teaching programmes and seminars in prisons and detention centres aimed at social rehabilitation and the development of prisoners’ academic and vocational skills.
