Professor Héctor José Miguens is a Professor of Insolvency Law at the National University of Buenos Aires. He is also an independent researcher of the National Ministry of Science and Technology in Buenos Aires at the “CONICET” (“Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas”).

Héctor received his Juris Doctor title from the National University of Buenos Aires in 1982 and the qualification of Specialist on Trustee in Bankruptcy from the National University of Tucumán [Argentina] in 1989. Finally, he obtained his Ph.D. or J.S.D. (“Iuris Doctoris”) title with a Summa Cum Laude mark from the University of Navarra [Spain] in 1996.

Héctor has carried out extensive research in the area of cross-border insolvency law. In 1997 he has attended a research programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also worked as a visiting scholar at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies [UK, 1997], at the Institute of European and Comparative Law [Oxford, 2010], at the George Washington University Law School [USA, 2013], and at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies [QMU, UK, 2015]. In 2013 and 2014 he has also been advisor at the UNCITRAL Conference, Working Group IV (Insolvency Law) in New York (Delegation of Argentina).

Héctor has been appointed as a Member of the Commercial Arbitration Court of the Public Bar Association of Buenos Aires in 2000 in Commercial Law matters. He has been Professor of Insolvency Law since 1997, in several private and public Universities of Argentina, Spain and Colombia. Since 1993 he is an honorary member of INSOL International. He has published extensively in the field of comparative insolvency law, and he has attended more than 80 conferences on the subject.
